Joey is a three-month-old Chihuahua who lives life with a heart bigger than his tiny body. At the Vintage Pet Rescue Center, he does everything his adopted siblings do — and he does it with joy. Even though Joey was born without his front legs, he happily races in circles alongside the other animals as if nothing in the world could slow him down.
After a long day of playing, Joey finds the coziest spot in the house and curls up in the middle of his stuffed animals. His favorite is a plush Lamb Chop toy, which happens to be just about the same size as he is. Surrounded by his toys, Joey drifts off peacefully, completely content.
Kristen Peralta, founder of Vintage Pet Rescue, told The Dodo:
“Joey is one of the most content dogs we’ve ever met. He doesn’t know he’s different. He just loves playing with toys, wrestling with the other dogs, splashing in his little pool, and being spoiled.”
Because he is still a puppy, Joey plays hard — and naps even harder.

Kristen added:
“Joey loves long naps with his big stuffed toys. He is absolutely obsessed with them!”
Before coming to Vintage Pet Rescue, Joey was under the care of the Connecticut Humane Society. The rescue organization specializes in helping senior animals and pets with special needs, making sure that every animal feels loved, safe, and valued.
And Joey is no exception.
Despite his challenges, Joey can climb stairs, hop onto the couch, and get just about anywhere he wants to go.

Kristen says:
“It’s incredible to watch him move so confidently. Nothing stops him.”
Soon, Joey will receive a custom-made wheelchair from Eddie’s Wheels for Pets. After his surgery and recovery, he will be ready to find a forever home.
Kristen believes Joey’s future is bright:

“We expect hundreds of people to want him — but there’s only one Joey.”
And she’s right.
Joey may have been born without front legs, but he was clearly born with something far greater — a fearless heart, endless joy, and a soul full of love.
