The Sheepdog Becomes the ‘Mother’ of 27 Chicks
Despite the differences in species, this dog lovingly and carefully takes care of its flock of chicks.
According to scientific research, dogs have a very high intelligence level, approximately that of a 6-year-old child. A vivid example supporting this theory is the story of Grace, a sheepdog living on a farm in Taranaki, New Zealand, who has taken on the role of a mother, raising 27 chicks.
The Smart Sheepdog Grace and Her Flock of Chicks
Grace is very gentle and always acts responsibly in protecting the 27 chicks. Interestingly, Grace is only 4 months old herself. From a young age, Grace’s owner would let her ride in the back of a truck, which also carried cages full of newly hatched chicks. Over time, this close contact created a strong bond between Grace and the chicks. When they were finally placed together, Grace naturally stepped into the role of a caring and exceptional “mother.”
Grace’s owner, Sandra Banks, shared: “Grace is very intelligent. Despite being only 4 months old, she has already learned 15 command words.”
